Okay, I had a re-aha.
Is that like a brouhaha?
Funny. That’s a good one.
No – a re-aha is a relighting of the bulb I knew was lit before.
And what did the bulb spread light upon?
That passion is not about doing, it’s about being.
Go on.
Normally when we are asked “what is your passion”, the answer is about what we want to do.
Or when we say we want to live our passion but don’t know what that is, we are looking for something to do.
We are looking for a how.
But to have an answer to how, there must be something before or behind it.
Exactly.
And that is what. How is an expression of what.
How is to do, as what is to be. [afterthought for the mathematically inclined - how : do as what : be]
Do is an expression of be.
Very insightful. Go on.
Passion is really about who we are, what I desire to be (and already am).
As long as I am expressing who I am I don’t really care what I am doing.
And so?
As long as I or anyone else tries to answer the question “what is your passion” in terms of doing, we will be stuck searching for a way to express our beingness.
We’ll be stuck on the how without first knowing the what.
Or we’ll think we can only do one thing. And if that doing thing can no longer be done then we are lost.
We’ve equated the doingness with beingness.
When in fact there are so many other ways to be who you are. In everything you do.
But there are ways you enjoy expressing yourself more than others.
What next?
Tricky.
The other part of this is all the people who are “living their passion” but don’t know why.
They aren’t aware of what part of themselves they are expressing. They are only aware of how good they feel.
True. What are you going to do about it?
Another trick.
It’s not about doing anything.
What’s next, and always is, is to be.
The question is “what are you going to be about it?”
My job is done for today. You did very well.
Were you being yourself?
Yes, indeed I was. Or rather, yes, in deed I am.
