Go forward, backwards and sideways into this day. Whatever you do, break up your routine.
You’ve fallen asleep.
That’s what routine does for you – gives you a false sense of security while you go mindless. That is most dangerous.
To be mindless on autopilot is the opposite direction of where you want to go.
I don’t have to tell you this. You know what mindless is all about but you continue to go there.
Your desire for mindless outweighs your desire for awareness.
I tell you this – you can’t be aware for half an hour a day and think you are going to grow … expand … evolve.
Awareness is a state of being, not something that you do.
Do not think awareness takes a lot of effort on your part. It doesn’t. It just is.
Mindless is much more intensive for your brain. Not only do you have to be aware of what you are actually doing, you have to imagine a whole new place for your mind to go to. That is called double duty.
Be mind full of what you are doing and you expend less effort.
This does not mean that you stop imagining or dreaming to only pay attention to what is here now. They will become one – now and then.
You are capable of doing both with full awareness.
This is your biggest hindrance to the life you desire to live and dare to dream – to go mindless, to seek safety in routine.
I can’t stress this enough. Life is about experiences and routine closes the door – slams it shut.
Routine is life on the replay button.
How long does it take you to get bored watching the same show over and over? Do you find life becomes dull or brightens when you replay the same thing over and over again?
Safety is found in your growth, in trying new things, in discovering there is so much more that you can do.
Routine keeps you small and dulls your mind. Is that not the opposite direction you desire in your heart to go?
Change things up. Right now. Today. Do not wait for tomorrow.
Change your hair, part it on the other side. Take a bath instead of a shower. Walk instead of driving. Go the other direction instead of the route you always take.
There are so many ways you can move out of routine.
Eat at a different time. Or not at all. Are you really hungry or does the clock say so?
Shake things up – yell and scream at the top of your lungs or jump up and down. Dance the Hokey-Pokey all around.
Just shake things up.
Actors have ways to build up their energy for a scene – to get into that space. Find a way for you to build up your energy and get ready for paying attention to life.
Do this anytime you find yourself smack dab in the middle of your routine. And pay attention you don’t make a routine of getting out of routine.
Live a little. Shake things up. Live a lot.
