What do you yearn to do deep in your heart that you keep secret from even yourself?
You know what it is because you had to know it was there before you could cover it up.
Pull away a corner of the blanket that keeps it hidden. Take a peek so you know for sure it’s still there.
Surprise!
It is still there. Always has. Always will. It will never go away. It will wait for you.
How long are you going to take?
What idea do you have about yourself that you are afraid to bring into the light of day?
Are you afraid this will change everything you know about yourself? Are you afraid you will have to give up everything you know, everything you thought you desired?
Guess what?
All that you think about yourself now is the lie if you have to give it up to be yourself.
Not the other way around.
You seek freedom except the very thing that keeps you bound are your current thoughts about yourself and who you are.
If you were already being yourself you wouldn’t even think about freedom or being free. You already are.
Let go of all those thoughts – just for a moment – and give your true self the light of day. Throw back the blanket and let the sun shine in.
Enjoy yourself. Just for a moment.
And then you can decide if this is what you truly want or not. Do you want to go backward or forward?
You realize by doing this you can never really go back. Once you have tasted your true self, once you can feel your true self in your entire being – you can never go all the way back no matter hard you try.
There is a piece of you that will always remember at the most unlikely, inopportune moment that will not let you forget the truth.
That is what is happening now.
Otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
No matter how much you try there is a part of you that cannot hide any longer.
Think of Hide-N-Seek – go back to that game once again that you used to play when you were smaller. You could hide in places where nobody could find you.
These were special places as a right of passage.
Because as you grew bigger you could no longer fit inside. Your arm would hang out or your foot, or you would be so cramped up in there you thought you were going to die.
The time came when you could hide there no longer.
There always comes a time when you cannot hide a part of you from yourself no longer. You have grown too much to hide the same old way. You will always see yourself.
You can find a larger place to hide but you will remember what it was like when you were younger and spilled out all over the place and couldn’t hide. And simply by remembering those times you will remember who you truly are.
And once again you have foiled your attempts to hide.
Do you see the silly games you play with yourself?
When will you tire? When will you outgrow such games of the young and move onto bigger things you desire?
Play these games if you must but do so with the full awareness of doing so. Use these games as joyful experiences of life, knowing you are not stuck repeating them over and over again.
You laugh at mice running on wheels in cages going nowhere.
But you do the same.
Have you noticed the mouse gets off the wheel too? And chooses to get back on, and off again?
That is something you still have to learn.
Now who would you say is the smarter of mice and men? Which has learned more of the two?
