Braving The Clutter Clearing Questions

I think I’m coming down with a major case of clutter clearing again.  The last time I experienced one this big was about five years ago.  Everything in the house became a conscious decision to stay or go – nothing was left untouched, no box unopened.  I am still amazed thinking of the scales on the paper shredding truck weighing in at 568 lbs.

Out of that process came the first question:

If you had to pay someone to store each and every item in your home, as it is right now … for what would you spend money to keep and what would go?

The next question came about through the clutter clearing of items from my deceased parents.  Some items were truly inheritances while most were things my sisters and I didn’t know what to do with … and I somehow became the lucky person to store … and move them one too many times.

As I selected out the very few items that really held special meaning to me I realized I packed around a lot more than just material items from my parents.  If these “things” could be so easily stored and left unexamined, then what about my beliefs?  Did my beliefs come from Who I Really Am or had I been packing around my parent’s beliefs too?

From that came an enlightening process of examining the origins of what I held to be true, who had influences on my thinking and facing the inspired question I was asked to answer:

If you can only hold only one belief from your parents, tossing the rest away … what would that one belief be?

* You can modify the question to include one belief from each parent if you must.

While you take your turn diving into these questions, ask your friends and family to see if they would like to join you!
