So how did your sight exam go?
Starting a new Word Seek a few days ago I was reminded of the sight exam and what happened in A Red Kettle Day. Simple puzzles have pretty complex outcomes.
I enjoy solving Word Seeks, especially after I developed my own technique. I was taken aback by this latest set of rules where the words contained an angle … the end of the word finished in a different direction from its start.
My initial reaction was ‘oh, great, how am I going to do this now‘ because it totally thwarted my technique. My second reaction was to move on to the next puzzle because this was going to be ‘too difficult‘.
But then I decided to give the puzzle an honest try. As minutes passed I could feel the frustration of not being able to see the words like I was used to and trying to figure out how I was going to approach the problem.
After what felt like ages, I suddenly found the first word. All of a sudden something clicked in my brain and I found word after word. My brain embraced a new worldview of the puzzle. I was seeing angle possibilities all over the place.
At the same time I noted my eyes weren’t seeing (or seeking) words in straight lines anymore. The old pattern was broken … I couldn’t see the Word Seek with my old set of eyes any longer.
I chuckled at how little time that took to happen. Now I wonder what will happen when I come across my next ‘regular’ Word Seek.
