In The Flow

I first saw Jennifer Lin on Oprah in April of 2006 when she was 16 years old.   Not only is she an amazingly talented pianist, she is an equally incredible composer.  I was blown away – and get taken away every time I see it – by her improvisational compositions.

I call it divine inspiration and being in the flow.  No rehearsals, no polish, no do-overs.

This is what Jennifer had to say about flow … or not … prior to her improvisation performance at TED [watch below @ time point 13:36 ] in 2004 – at the age of 14.

Sometimes if you manage to use your time wisely, and work on it, you’ll get something out of it but it doesn’t come naturally.

What happens if something magical happens, something natural happens to you.  You’re able to produce all this beautiful stuff instantly.  And then that’s what I consider flow because that’s when everything clicks and you’re able to do anything.  You’ll feel like you’re on top of your game and you can do anything you want.

Be in the flow, be natural, in everything you do.
